Trivias about Carlo J. Caparas Comics Superheroes

Carlo J. Caparas, born Magno Jose J. Caparas, is a director, producer, writer and a comics strip creator. He is the person behind many Filipino superheroes and “komiks” characters such as Panday, Totoy Bato, Gagambino, Panday and many others. 

When the comics industry took a dive in the 1990s, Caparas turned as producer and director of several movies. In 2006, Caparas spearheaded the Komiks Congress, a massive effort to revive the komiks industry in the Philippines. To help spread awareness that komiks is still a popular reading material amongst Filipinos, he toured the country with his Komiks Caravan, an exhibit of original comics issued across the country.

Juan Luna paintings taken from the book of "Juan Luna, The Filipino Painter" by Santiago Albano Pilar and published by Eugenio Lopez Foundation, Inc., 1980.  The diskette with the paintings was provided by Carminda Arevalo of the National Historical Institute.

An internationally acclaimed Filipino painter who brought honor to the Philippines. Juan Luna was born in Badoc, Ilocos Norte on October 24, 1857. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from the Ateneo de Manila. In 1877, he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid, Spain, where he won the high praises of his Spanish teachers.

Carlos Quirino – is best known for his early biography of Jose Rizal. He also wrote several works on Philippine history and biographies of President Manuel Quezon and the painter Damian Domingo. In 1997 he was recognised as a National Artist of the Philippines for Historical Literature.

Leonor Orosa Goquingco – was a Filipino national artist in creative dance. She could play the piano, draw, design scenery and costumes, sculpt, act, direct, dance and choreograph. Her pen name was Cristina Luna and she was known as Trailblazer, Mother of Philippine Theater Dance and Dean of Filipino Performing Arts Critics. She died on July 15 2005 of “cardiac arrest secondary to cerebro-vascular accident” at the age of 87.

The beginning stamp collector will probably have hundreds of questions.
For example, a collector might want to know what countries and topics to collect which album t begin with methods of display. problems on soaking and or mounting specific stamps. This is where the  local stamp clubs and the local stamp collectors, can of enormous  assistance to the beginner.

Beginners may no always feel welcome when they go to their first club meeting. Sometimes they approach the wrong people when they seek information. They should approach people who have more time to help them as well as the officers of the clubs who usually are willing to do things for other people on the other hand the old timers or the more experienced collectors should show a greater willingness to assist the beginner. These person do exist and their service to the hobby is an invaluable blessing and an enormous help. Nothing is more important to a beginner than finding a common ground for discussions and expression of interest.

Dr. Rodolfo S. Cornejo was a distinguished Filipino composer-pianist-conductor and professional lecturer. He was a musician who became a church organist at the age of 8, a composer at the age of 10, whose composition was published when he was 13 (a military march entitled "Salute" dedicated to then Governor;General Leonard Wood of the Commonwealth Period), a holder of a Teaches Diploma from the University of the Philippines at 23, and a degree holder of Master in Music ( Mus. M.) in composition conferred by the Chicago Musical College at 24.

Through the efforts of the National Commission for Culture & the Arts (NCCA), February is declared under Presidential Degree No. 683 as the National Arts Month. The NCCA provides support to various artistic activities in the country through its Grants Programs. It has also provided many talented individual and groups, especially in the performing arts, the opportunity to study in various institutions abroad and/or compete in international festivals or contest,and many of them have returned bringing honor to the country.

After briefly passing by the Philippines on an observation trip which took him to China in 1838, the French traveler Jean Mallat, took a serious interest in the Philippines. Mallat later returned two times and traveled more extensively. He compiled notes about his travels in the archipelago which were published in a book entitled Les Philippines.

Trivias about the "Parisian Life" by Juan Luna

"Parisian Life", also known as "Interior d'un Cafe" was painted in c 1892 by Juan Luna. The oil on canvass painting, 22 inches long ~ and 31 inches in width, and now housed at the GSIS Museum of fA Art-Pasay City, features three Filipino patriots - Jose Rizal, Juan Luna, and Ariston Bautista Lin. It was given by Juan Luna to Ariston Bautista Lin who kept it in his Quiapo house, site of the Propaganda and Katipunan movements.

Antonio Santos Velasquez (Tony Velasquez) was born in Paco, Manila on October 29, 1910. He is known as the "Father of Tagalog Komiks." In -1926, while a boy of 16 in high school, he worked as a photo-engraver at the Banaag Press in Santa Cruz, Manila, which was later bought by Ramon Roces of Liwayway. Velasquez took courses in Cartooning and Advertising at the Federal School of Arts of America. In 1935, he was promoted to chief artist for the six sister magazines: Liwayway, Graphic,Bannawag, Bisaya, Hiligaynon, and Bikolnon.
